To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all! Our local EDACS system uses ESK so its not possible to put the radio on its control channels even in rx only mode,
is it possible to listen Provoice traffic in EDACS system by programming EDACS traffic channels as a conventional Provoice channels and scanning them all, like motorolas may do with astro9600 trunking?

Not sure if that would work or not. I Have tried it with AEGIS and it did not work. Wouldn't sync up correctly it seems. Would get little pops and clicks on the audio sometimes. Usually it would just allow the raw audio thru, i.e. you could hear the analog channel data sound like it wasnt recognizing the 'noise' as AEGIS data. Whether or not it would work for ProVoice i have no idea. I'll give it a shot tonight see if i can catch some.

The solution is simple - in the digital voice options, select data polarity 'inverted'. Seems the digital voice data goes through a 180 degree phase reversal when transmitted by the base station.

Wow, all this time and I never noticed that in ProGrammer! Learn something new every day, I'll give that a shot. FYI, without setting the invert in ProGrammer as mitaux8030 suggested, ProVoice behaves the same as AEGIS, no decoded audio. I'll flip it to inverted and see what that does!

Yes - you also have to set the outside address to 51 (decimal) rather than the 85 that it has by default.

I'm making a note of this, myself.

I use essentially the same trick to monitor a Motorola Astro digital system with conventional (digital) scan with an Astro Saber. It works very well. And the system is not very busy so I usually catch both sides
of any given conversation, as well as if it were actually following the trunking system in trunking mode.

Now for my next trick, I guess eventually I'll have to see if I can use a M/A-Com radio to monitor a
Motorola digital trunked system in the same manner, or use a Motorola radio with a M/A-Com system in the same way. (But obviously, in P25 mode, not ProVoice.)

Set the RX Address to 172, and as previously indicated ProVoice on EDACS Trunking is inverted.

Lindsay, what make/model of radio are you refering to ? Does this thread relate to our Pro-Voice TRS?

OK, back to my Pro-106 which simply does the "ESK" ignore trick like your PSR-500 scanner does :)
Botom line, other than us here in San Antonio, having the 19 LCN's of the Blue Simulcast layer in one scanlist and the 19 LCN's of the Gold Simulcast layer in another scanlist and get to properly trunk track
just the Analog Talk Groups .... is this thread implying I can do more with a "conventional" scanner ?
Or do I need to bestow on myself another radio to decode Pro-Voice like an LPE-200 or other radio ?

So what in your estimation, what does it take to trunk track EDCAS Pro-Voice talk groups in SATX ?

Bring It :))

Several radio vendors tested their P25 radios on a Motorola statewide P25 system for cross compatibility...I can't recall the State, but it was in the midwest...Illionis maybe?

Edit: Found a reference in Channels to such testing in Arizona. (Page 18)

Understanding the above .. setting the RX and TX to 172 will allow you to listen to PV conventional transmissions. That is fine, but is there a way to listen to Radio to Radio PV transmissions ? If you scan the LCN's for a system for example you will always have the radio stop on the control channel, thus making the scan feature useless.

I understand that this is only capable on "supervisor" type radios. Can someone enlighten me on this capability.

The RX/TX Address should be thought of as being the ProVoice equivalent of a P25 NAC. Setting the RX Address to 172 tells the radio to unsquelch on any ProVoice transmission, not just those containing a matching value.

Yes, scanning the LCN's conventionally will eventually land you on the control channel, but all you have to do is remove that offending channel from the scan list, one or two key presses at most. Unless your radio is set to have a fixed scan list, in which case it will have to be reprogrammed to allow the scan list to be user editable.

Open Sky

Care to elaborate? If Provoice is being used in a trunked system and can be listened to on a conventional radio just programming the voice channels then couldn't an Open Sky capable radio bve programmed in a conventional mode to translate the Open Sky voice just as you all are doing as discusssed above? If not, why not? How does Open Sky broadcast its voice channels across the trunked system?
