To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I assembled the KFDShield, have the TRS to Hirose adapter, XTS adapter with the 2 pin jumper, and can load and read keys to the radios. When I disconnect the radio from the adapter after loading the keys I have tried changing the Channel Parameters > Key Select and there are no keys to choose. Radio reads "No Keys". Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Going to purchase the programming cable and software, but this should be programable from the FFP. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Had me confused with FPP, and Encryption Key Select.

Which program are you using, Armada or PCConfig?
Next which Radio?

FPP is Front Panel Programming, has nothing to do with encryption key selection.
You should have a key for scramble selected. Which key/menu is that?

Right I'm trying to just program a channel with the front panel right now. It was in the menu so I figured I could access the keys that way. Should be receiving a copy of PCConfig soon.

Using the EFJ 5100 ES model II with limited keypad V 6.18.0

Is it not possible to program a channel with a key from the front panel?

That helps a LOT more.

Sadly NO to set the channel for encrypt, you have to turn it on in the channel menu(PCConfig or CPS).
ON THE FLY FPP no,
My NX-5400, I FPP a p25 channel, it is by default CLEAR and wont set a key till I use the FPU and turn it on.

End of story, when using FPP to enter a channel, Encryption is NULL by default.

When you say "Key for scramble" where do you select that?

I'm in PCConfig and in the tab "Zone". I'm working on a P25 channel and the Security section I have "Override Talkgroup Security Settings:" set to "Yes". Strapping mode is set to Srapped Secured. KEY PID is 1. I have 3 TEK's loaded on radio. I can get the radios to talk when the Strapping mode is set to "Switched" not sure if that is using the keys I loaded into the radio though.

Besides that the only other place I see anything related to keys is in the Per System tab > Individual Call List Settings section> Key PID:

Nevermind, I figured it out. Who would have thought the program's manual would have a lot of the answers to my questions
