• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a EFJohnson 5300 v6.5 A21 and I tried using PC Configure 2.10.2 but all I get is Radio not responding.
I am using a USB to DB9 with a chip then a DB9 adapter to DB25 to connecting to the back of the radio. Anyone have any ideas? I am running Windows 7 x64. I have also tried DB9 plugged into a serial comport in the back of the computer as well and no joy. Thanks everyone for all your help and I wish ALL of you a Merry Christmas

According to the documentation I have, 2.10.2 is correct for a v6-series 5300. Your problem is probably related to the USB cable. It has been my experience that the 5300-series rigs can be very picky about 64-bit Windows and do not like USB adapters. I use a REAL serial cable, attached to a REAL serial port, and even then it can be hit or miss with these rigs. I maintain a 32-bit Win 7 laptop (with serial port) just for programming older EFJ and Motorola radios.

Here is the cable I use... EF Johnson 5300 53SL Ascend ES Radio Programming Cable

Good luck!

I have several EFJ 5100 radios, and they all work best using 32 bit Windows XP and a true serial Kawamall cable. My experience with USB to serial cable adapters has been poor, with none that were really dependable with 64 bit OS.

Well i talk to efjohnson HQ in Tx and they give me a phone number to a local dealer that should be able to help me locate a programming cable for a 5300 ES Ascend series radio. Well lo and behold no joy as they do not have anything to do with 5300 series radios at all in face nothing to do with EFJohnson radios at all.. So I call the back up number they gave me to a different local dealer here in MD and once again have to leave a voice mail message. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper right now with EFJohnsons customer service at all. If anyone here knows of a dealer that I can talk to or can help me get a programming cable for the 5300 series with a DB9 connection on one end I would really appreciate it.
Sorry for the ranting and raving... Happy New Year everyone!
