I'm considering changing out my Moto XTL5000 for a dual band radio. I'll be doing a road trip up to Montanna for Los Angeles and I think having a FPP dual band radio would be more useful. I'm looking at this newish EM Wave antenna, model # M43002. I know that prcguy and mmckenna have played with this antenna and I was wondering if anyone else has used it for a dual band ham radio and if so what were the results?

Thanks!

The M43002 specs are not amateur friendly, but look good for MURS and GMRS. I have used a Diamond NR770 amateur antenna for over a decade on a motorized mount and another on a fixed mount with fine results. The NR770 comes in chrome/black and UHF/NMO for options. Perhaps something to consider if you do not mind the height. (The motor mount keeps it garage friendly, but it does fold over as well)

As to radios, I use my XTL5k for P25 and GMRS while the dual band handles the amateur analog stuff. The amateur gets the rooftop antenna while the XTL gets the back below the roofline mount. My XTL is 10/40 watts.

I've been running that EM Wave on my work truck for quite a while now. Multiband radio. Works fine on 2 meter and 70cm. Yeah, the lowest SWR is in the LMR bands, but it doesn't climb that high when on the ham bands.

I've got sweeps for it, probably still on the antenna analyzer. I'll try to remember to pull them.

The new Larsen multiband performs just fine on 2 meter/70cm. 1.75:1 at 144MHz, 1.50:1 at 148MHz. 1.17:1 at 445MHz.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. mmckrnna, I saw the SWR sweeps you posted on an earlier thread. It looks like it will work for what I need. The place I’m going only has four repeaters, three VHF and one UHF. Also quite a few VHF machines along my route. Should be a fun trip. Just me and the road and a radio!
