Where can I go to find out whether or not the police frequencies in the Phoenix AZ area (Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert, Scottsdale and Chandler) are encrypted. I am buying myself a scanner for Christmas and that will determine how much I will be investing in one.

Thanks in Advance

Im kinda new at this, will it come right out and say encrypted or is there something else I should be looking for?
darthgarlic, look at the "Mode" column. When you fly your mouse over the word "Mode" a popup will appear. You will then see that a capital "E" in that column signifies full-time encryption.

I hope that answers your question. If you need additional assistance, ask away. :)

Cheers! Dave

PhxPD is encrypted all but A Deck (basic patrol any major traffic goes to encrypted channel). Chandler PD patrol channels in the clear all else encrypted. Gilbert PD Ch1 Dispatch in the clear other channels encrypted. Mesa PD 5 Main dispatch channels in the clear all others encrypted. Scottsdale North and South dispatch in the clear all else is encrypted.

Now I am debating the purchase of a scanner. Thanks for the info cfsimmont.

Here and there
There is in modern times 50/50 with encryption. While some is blocked you still have plenty to hear like fire, ems basic talk groups or channels to public service and utility types.
