Has anyone heard this rumor.
I have a friend that works for a media outlet here in Birmingham. He mentioned that southern Linc is rumored to be ending push to talk service. They use it 24/7 for daily coms. I asked him what was the replacement was.
Mentioned a sales representative said something like zello. A push to talk app.

I've not heard anything to that end...however, I'm not in the position to hear rumors of that sort. That being said, I am familiar with the Zello app, and have it on my smartphone.

WAVE 7000
https://www.motorolasolutions.com/c...lications/wave/wave-7000-product-brochure.pdf (PDF)

To ease the transition from Southern Linc's iDEN network to the new LTE network, the PTT service will offer interoperability, enabling users on the LTE network to communicate with those on the iDEN network.

Southern Linc is constructing an LTE Advanced (LTE-A) network to meet the increasing mission-critical data needs of its largest customer, Southern Co.'s electric utilities. The highly reliable network will have the capacity to serve the most crucial data needs of area businesses and local government as well. The network will offer network encryption over the air (OTA), and the PTT service will be encrypted from user to user. In addition, the company is further strengthening emergency backup power capabilities with hydrogen fuel cell technology at key locations and is adding main power and core data center redundancy to increase the reliability of the new network.

Southern Linc plans to begin migrating existing PTT users to the new LTE PTT solution in 2018.

Correct. We were told it would cease 3rd quarter 2018. ALl of our LINCs were to be replaced with LTE hardware. I hope the hardware is loud.
