I am wondering if my idea would help the priority channel while scannning. I plan on monitoring conventional frequencies. I will set a frequency in priority and scan only one bank. My thoughts are to program the priority frequency in the bank on a few different channels to ensure that I don't miss any part of the transmission on that frequency. Please let me know your thoughts.

The Pro-96 only allows for one priority channel in the whole radio, it is not even programmed in a bank. IOW, you could have the priority frequency something that is not programmed anywhere else in the radio. That said, priority channel usage is problematic because when you activate it, it interferes with the other scanning operations (by checking for activity on the PRI Ch every 2 seconds).

Your idea of putting a specific channel in a bank multiple times has been used in the past, but all that means is it will be checked that many times as it scans that bank. If you are concerned about missing something on a specific channel while you are scanning then use the priority function, the most you can miss is slightly less than 2 seconds of transmission and with the delay on, as long as they are talking you will maintain on it. Putting it multiple times in a bank will not give you that benefit.

Lou - I understand that there is no need to put the priority frequency into a bank. However, what I am wondering is if I do put that frequency into the bank multiple times and still have it in priority if it would make it work better. Meaning not missing any part of the transmission.

Well consider this, you have a specific channel (we will call it dispatch) that you want to monitor and try and miss no part of any conversation and you have a bank set up with 10 channels and 1/2 of them are the dispatch channel and you set up the priority channel as the dispatch frequency also and turn priority on. Every 2 seconds it will jump to the configured priority channel (not the one in the bank) and check if for traffic. Let's say that a conversation starts on the dispatch channel while it is on one of the programmed (in the bank) slots, sometime during that conversation it will jump to the priority channel and you will miss a small "blip" of the conversation during the switch. As long as the conversation is ongoing, you should not lose any more of it, but...

The real answer for a channel/frequency that you want to miss nothing on is to commit a single radio to monitoring that one channel and have it do nothing else, if it is a P25 channel, then this solution gets expensive.
