I have the frequencies that i want and have some hex / dec i want to enter as well, can you enter the HEX/DEC with out doing it between each freq? this is in Va by the way if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance
There are two distinct modes on the Pro-197:
* Conventional (in the main body of the RR database pages where many agencies are listed, each with their own frequency) where you only need the frequency and if desired to limit your listening to ONLY that agency's signals (and miss those great long distance signals when the skip is in), the PL tone. These are entered using the CONV programming method (see easier-to-read manual link below).
* Trunking (each system has their own page with several frequencies and talkgroups listed) where you need to enter the frequencies for that system and the talkgroup (those HEX/DEC entries) for the traffic you want to monitor. These are entered using the TSYS (for the frequencies) and TGRP (for the talkgroups) programming methods (see easier-to-read manual link below).
As far as the "Which do I use, Hex or Dec?" question goes, use whichever your scanner (or programming software) is configured to use. They're both the same thing, just a different way of representing them. Originally, the DEC entry was used for scanners and the HEX entry was used for system radios. More modern scanners allow you to select which representation to use (and generally default to DEC) so the answer can't be given in a simple, straight forward answer. You'll need to check your settings and use whichever you tell your scanner you used while programming. If you can't find the entry (generally indicating you've left it at the default setting), use the DEC values unless you have problems.
