• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Did you not read the post right above you? Ham radio isn't the answer here.

LOL thanks, I could swear I posted an answer to him along those lines but I guess it didn't go through. :D

I also forgot to ask, since you've all pretty much said no to LMR-400 for the feeds, would Superflex Heliax work here? What size would you recommend? I'm guessing 3/8", but since it is a better cable to begin with, would 1/4" work for us? Not concerned with cost, just the difference in loss over the 75' or so. Will Heliax "self coil" when the mast is extended/collapsed or does it need to be sleeved in Nycoil? Remember there will be three feeds.

Ok I've got one for all you experts.. I belong to our county CERT team, and we are purchasing a new response trailer to replace the one that we currently have as it is too small. We have also applied for and expect to receive a decent grant to (among other things) buy new radios to replace the ancient/inadequate Motorola Talkabout FRS radios we currently use. Since I'm the only licensed ham and real tech nerd on the team they looked to me to come up with a workable radio solution. I have some ideas but there's some things I'm not sure about and want to be sure (and make sure I'm not missing anything) before I bring them my plan.

I don't wish to change the subject as I'm interested in your plan. I'm in your shoes in my CERT team. I'm the tech guy and we're trying to update our stuff as well. Would you mind telling me or linking me to where you found info to apply for your grant? We'd very much appreciate it.

I was not the one who applied for them (there were actually two), one was a "community improvement" grant from a local ISP so it wouldn't help you, but the other (larger) one I believe was a national organization so I will find out for you next time we meet, which will be in about two weeks.
