Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just got my software and hardware from Motorola to program my radios and I cannot connect to them. I get an Error # 512. I am using the correct Com port - settings of 9600, 8, no parity, 1 stop bit and no Flow Control. I have the RIB, the programming cable AAPMKN4004A. I am using Windows 7 Pro - 64 bit. My version of CPS is 5.13.

Can anyone help me out? I think I am just missing something obvious...

Thanks in advance.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.4; en-us; DROID BIONIC 4G Build/5.5.1_84_DBN-74) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

I don't believe it will work on 64 bit. I have the later version and still no go.

CPS 5.13 works fine on my Windows 7 64 bit desktop using a Wiscomm USB cable.

However the software sometimes seems to forget which COM port I'm telling it to use. Every now and then when I first open the program and try to read/write a radio, I will get the 512 Error. My solution to this is to go to Edit --> Preferences and select a random COM port (not the correct one), click OK; then immediately go back and select the correct one. This seems to "reset" the software into using the correct port (the one I originally had selected) and it works fine after that.

I have no idea if this will work for anybody else but you might want to give it a try.

Also, are you using a USB-Serial converter, or an actual serial port?

I tried the COM port trick thing, but to no success.

I have tried both options. I installed on a laptop with a USB-to-COM adapter and no success, so I installed on my desktop with a direct COM port on it, with same results.

I will see if I can find a 32 bit machine and try it.
