• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I turned on my G5 this morning and got an error message about software. Advised me to push three buttons, "RESET + DVR + PLAY for three seconds to manually reset and then contact Unication Tech Support and advise of ERROR CODE #ffff2".

What key is "DVR"? I know where the other two keys are located.

Unication's support tab says to contact the dealer. Dealer has not seen this. This unit is out of warranty.

Is there a way to ask Unication directly what is wrong here and what can be done about it? Has anyone else had this come up?

S/W 1.31 in use here. Is this one of those, "take the battery out, turn the unit ON to clear the error" scenarios? Any help/ideas black magic appreciated. Thanks.

The 3 key method and taking the battery out are pretty much the same thing. I never got the hang of the 3 key method so i never used it. Anytime i had an issue battery pull is my go to.
If that dont fix it, then reloading the firmware.

I cant remember which buttons exactly but its one of the side buttons (top side button I think) the little button on the channel knob and then one on the front of the unit. I had to do this alot when i first got my g5 it ended up getting rmad to unication. A battery pull and reset that way will also work, if this is a one off time you had to do this thats fine but if it keeps occuring you may need to send it into unication.

Could that be the Voice Memo Key--the smaller key just below the Reset Key on the side of the G5? I thought that I'd heard that button referred to as the "Digital Voice Record" button at one time, but haven't been able to find the reference.

Wow! Three great answers! I did "fix" it by removing the battery and letting it go "stupid". (I have had to do this to a lot of radios over the years, so it's no big deal to do). I agree, if it decides to "wig out" again, I'll contact Unication and send it in. (Wonder how much the fix will be?). Glad I didn't have to reload s/w. Not especially painful, just hoping it wouldn't come to that. Glad I got it operational. Weekend coming up. Covering the inevitable: sick calls, bar fights, batteries, car crashes. Gotta say, this is one heck of a scanner, for something never designed to be. Audio will wake the dead! I have our county-wide 800 trunked system and some conventional VHF in it. amazing device. Gonna load the statewide 700 State Police system and listen while I can. You know what I mean. Thanks to all three of you for the suggestions and "witchcraft" re: the three buttons. 73, and happy listening this weekend.

I don't have messanging enabled. Anyway, so far, it's not had a relapse. Hope it's in remission. Thanks.
