I've had this radio for about 3 months now and lately I've been having a noise problem. It sounds like a bumble bee on steroids. It happens about every 3-4 minutes and lasts about 15-20 seconds. Some days are worst than others.

It's hooked up to an external antenna and even when I use the internal antenna, it still does the same thing. I'm hoping it's not the radio because I don't hear this noise on all frequencies.

Anyone have any ideas?

It's unlikely to be the radio - there's something in the area that's causing this issue. HF is very prone to noise problems like this. Since it happens on a basis with some time constraints, it should be possible to narrow this down somewhat. Put batteries into the E1 and walk around; see if it's something in your home (can you hear it on AM? Use a cheap AM/FM portable, tune to a clear AM freq during the daytime). There's an awful lot of possibilities here - too many to think about without narrowing it down. 73s Mike

[edit] Another thought - if you don't hear the noise on batteries, the power cube is the likely culprit. I know I've seen reports on the E1 Yahoo group that early versions had a really crappy power cube, and Eton did replace them.

Thanks for the suggestions and I'll give these a try. I have one of the latest versions so it might not be the power cube.

It's most likely outside interference so I'll give these suggestions a shot.

OMG, man you guys are good. It didn't take me long to find the culprit. Turns out it's my ionicpro air purifier. I have it in the same room, is set to auto and everytime it kicks on is when the noise starts. I have a little rearranging to do.

Now I'm happy as a bumblebee that's not on steroids though.
