Eton Elite 750 - USB power?

I just bought a 750, and the manual says it will accept regular D cells (4x1.5V=6V), or rechargeable D cells (4x1.2V=4.8V). This makes me think it will work with 5V USB power supplies with an adapter cable. Has anyone tried this? Are such cables available?

Note: the manual says the power connector has a negative center pin. Existing cables on Amazon have positive center pins, so I guess this would be a non-standard cable.
