Lately, Euclid police channel 1's (423.375 mhz) signal strength has been very weak at my location, which is only about 5 or 6 miles from Euclid. Curiously, all other Euclid police and fire channels, and all other nearby 423~424 mhz traffic, are still strong as usual. Both patrol car and base signals are weak and fade a lot. Sometimes there's power line interference mixed in with channel 1 patrol car signals and the dispatcher has commented on it. The problem is not confined to one particular scanner. I'm using a wideband discone antenna. Has anyone else noticed a problem with Euclid PD channel 1? Could there be a problem with their repeater? But if so, why only channel 1?

Well radio equipment does fail from time to time. I worked on a system where they complained reception was a little weak.. There was 250 milliWatts to the antenna.

Could be using seperate repeaters for each channel. I know the guy that was their tech. I'll ask.

Update

...from my contact..."there were 6 separate repeaters for Police (2), Fire (2) Service (1) and CECOMS channel "C", 423.850. All but Service have 110.9 outputs. Fire 2 and CECOMS have 151.4 input PL, with 110.9 out because other agencies also use the frequency w/110.9. So, I used a different input to still be in line with the County plan, as it was back then. Also, all three "Services" had a back-up repeater using 131.8 as an input PL. Mobiles and HTs just had to change channels to go there if needed."

As to why Ch 1 is bad in your location I don't know. Locally they may not realize it.

My BC235XLT still picks up Euclid around the house on just the rubber ducky ant. although there is a quite a bit of noise.
Tonight ran up to Wendy's @84 &91 from my house downtown (2nd and Clark) and was able to listen to a foot chase and capture @ taser point on Euclid F1 in the truck with the handheld and rubber duck.

After further analysis, I find that sometimes the CH 1 signal DOES come in as strong as other Euclid channels, but it fades a lot. Maybe CH 1 repeater's antenna is at a different location from the others. If so, perhaps that line-of-sight to my antenna is blocked by high structures or whatever, causing reflections/mutipath etc. If the signal path goes right through the high-level bridge at the I-90 and route 2 interchange, maybe big semi trucks are deflecting the signal as they move. Or maybe it's gremlins.
