Hi, Im pretty new to radio scanning and I recently obtained a Whistler TRX1, I have programmed it and whenever someone talks over a radio, the TRX1 seems to pick up the signal but you cant hear anything, the only thing that happens is the status led turns on if it is programmed, No signal bar either, though sometimes I do see a small dot near the S..

Im not sure if im being ignorant with the software or if its an issue with the radio but if someone could help please then that would be highly appreciated.
Many thanks.

Here is a test frequency I programmed on

We would need more info, as we have no idea if the freq is analog or digital, how your programming looks, or anything.

Not being critical, just trying to help, there are a slew of issues that it could be and you need to help us help you. You might start by trying one of the weather channels (if you are in the United States).

The frequency you show is in the Amateur band. Is it analog or digital? What type of modulation? Is it actually conventional or part of a trunked system? We need to know more info to be able to help. Which frequencies, systems, and agencies do you want to monitor? It would help to know your city, county, and state,

Hi, Its Analog, it is actually a conventional frequency. Right now im not sure what I want to listen to, just want to get the scanner working on that specific frequency to know everything is alright
I am also in the UK

Okay that changes things if you are in the UK. Is this a TRX-1e using the firmware/bandplan for the UK?

Hi, I have tried transmitting about a 6 - 7 meters, not much changes, though sometimes the S with a little dot appears, other times just an S.
You're are transmitting way to close to the scanner and could damage the scanner..... Park on te channel on the scanner, press play, make sure dmode is set to analog and set squelch to search. also set that channel to record, then go outside with your transmitter and test come back and check the recording. if nothing turn on attenuation and try again....

I don't think about 20 feet away would damage the scanner.
It's your scanner, you can fry it any way you want...the front end is super sensitive on the trx and they will clip a strong signal. and if too strong you will damage the scanner.

Just checking the OP hasn't confused the volume with the squelch....on an analogue channel, turn the squelch dial all the way down and the volume up (using the up key on the keypad). Do you get any sound from the speaker as a result?

Hi, I am back with some results.
If I walk further away, closer to 30 or 40 meters away then the S disappears and nothing is heard
though if I am decently close to the radio, roughly 4 - 5 meters and I rub my finger on the tx mic then
I hear the sound on the TRX1 but no voice or anything can be heard.
