I have external speakers for every scanner on my desk except the SDS200. The audio from mine is so full and rich and clear that I decided to elevate it with rubber feet so that I can hear the internal speaker and let it sound off on its own. Best audio out of a base station scanner ever. I'm anxious to hear how it sounds in my RV while tooling down the highway. If I can't hear it well enough from the radio shelf nook behind me while driving then I will extend it with a Yaesu MLS speaker mounted on the wall just behind the drivers seat. But, at home as a base station? The audio is great. No speaker needed. If you think you do, indeed, need an external speaker for your SDS200, I would suggest the Yaesu MLS. Unamplified, they sound great with any scanner.

I agree, you’re absolutely wright the sound is better than the other scanners. Thought I’d try to make it even better! Never satisfied ... thanks for you thoughts.

The speaker on the dds200 really good, I’d imagine it be even better without the darn hum noise coming out of it

The hum is an easy fix. Just take the outer case off ,remove the screws from the inner metal case top. Push that inner case top as far forward and down as possible, hold in place, put screws on inner top back in. Put outer case back on. Hum should be gone. Or almost gone.

Did you see the official Uniden-approved DIY fix and part that is coming soon? Apparently that is the permanent solution per Uniden.

I got a Uniden BC20 external speaker, but if they make it, I’d rather have one that had a volume control, is their one out there?

The Uniden BC23A has a volume control on it -it also requires power - I am using one of these for my SDS200 / 2 BCD536HPs / HP-II. A bonus is the redlight on activity.

I’m gonna be using this in my house, so I don’t have to have a power plug do I? Just plug into scanner?

No you will need a power supply since it a amplified speaker.

Not sure what I’d need, can you provide a link to amazon to what I’d need for it, thanks.

I'm considering another external speaker, this one for my Pro-2006 and wanting something different, and I have been surfing the web for reviews and/or utube vids on the BC23A amplified speaker and not finding much. I see the volume wheel on the left side, and the indented on/off switch on top, but not seeing where the red light is located. Can't seem to find any vids on this speaker in action. N1NCZ can you help me out with that? Thanks!

It's only 32$ on Amazon, $45 at Bearcat Warehouse.

I got it on Amazon as well, just not that impressed with it. The button on top is for noise supression regardless of whether its pushed or not makes no sound difference, most audio is cut off by a 1/4 second since it auto detects there is a mod to change that on the internet if you google it. It has a stereo plug so if you have a mono out you need an adapter. Posted is a picture of the red light location which is on when it detects audio. Its now in the box with most other things i dont use maybe to find a use for it in the future.

Interesting, I run all the listed scanners except the HP-II also via ProScan and have not noticed any delays, I also agree the noise supression value is small but have had good success with it, however have also herd others have had success using PC Speakers.
