I see in the FCC License Info thread that there is something about Merrillville IN police communications. I live near Merrillville and wondering should I add those frequencies listed into my scanner. Would these frequencies be active or something pending?

Ed6698, I would add 154.785, 155.850, 156.015, and 151.295 to your scanner for Merrillville and see what you hear on them. I did see a talkgroup on safe-t for Merrillville Fire Dispatch but no talkgroup for Merrillville PD on Lake County Safe-t.

I will go ahead and add the other 3 frequencies in 2 of my scanners. I already have the 154.785 in, that is used very often. I also have the Safe-t talkgroup in for FD, however I have not ever heard anything on it or saw a hit in the counter.

Looks like the only "new" Freq is 151.295 repeater ... NFM and probably a DCS tone ... 158.850 is the input to the 154.785 repeater and the 156.015 is the input for the new 151.295 repeater

Where is 158.850? This was not on the fcc license app. This should be 155.850 as a input to 154.785.

typo dude!

question is, why would you have him stick a bunch of inputs into his radio that are very hard to pick up unless a unit is right in front of your home?

usswood, If you will read the fcc license app those freqs are on that. He asked WHAT freqs to put in his scanner. You put in the freqs that are listed on a fcc application to see what you will hear. You never know when you will hear anything on those freqs. Just like Lake County Sheriff on 154.815 repeater. When Lake County tells their deputies to go to" code orange" they disable to repeater. The only way that you will hear anything is be close in the area with a scanner on the input to 154.815. the input to the 154.815 Repeater is 155.970(Code Orange).Ed 6698 might hear these freqs get active if Merriville PD has a person who they are watching for use by detectives.

I did pick up something this evening on 155.850 with a tone of 146.2 I was not paying attention to what was being said as I was in another room, but I had a alert set and I did hear some talking. I will keep a eye on this frequency. I take it they have to be relatively close to me, to hear them on this freq.

Ed6698 don't you hear the same traffic as on the repeater, on the input 155.8500. For instance like on Newton County you can hear the same traffic on both repeater 155.0700 and input 155.9700?

I understand they can use it in simplex, but I thought you can hear traffic anytime there talking on either frequency and depending on there location, hear better or worse.

I know some talk in simplex, witch is not through the repeater but on the input, but I have also seen, like for instance with Jasper County they can use the 154.7250 repeater frequency as a talkaround/simplex.

P.S. I'm not saying you other 2 are wrong:) Love and Blessings:)

wingmaker, when I have 2 scanners running, I can hear traffic over 154.785 and nothing is coming across 155.850 at times. When I hear something coming across 155.850 nothing was coming across 154.875 at times. I have heard things coming across both at the same time at times. I will continue to monitor what is going on.

Now I seem to have something going on with 156.015, it just started yesterday. During a scan it stops on that frequency now and all it is I hear is a steady high pitched static sound, it almost sounds like something is being transmitted, it shows up pretty high on the signal bar also. I have to lock out the frequency otherwise it stops on it every time.

Cool Thanks for the Info Brother, I wasn't exactly sure how it worked on that system. Just how it works on the Newton County Repeater. Seems they use the input as a talkaround to go around the Repeater, witch I have heard being done before.

Not sure what might be the noise. How you got your squelch, is it good? I can pick up Merrillville PD freq. 154.7850, so I have been scanning 151.295 listening see if I hear any traffic, so I can get the tone.
I haven't heard anything on it so far, I should get it since its more transmitting power then the regular freq and I get that:)

Thanks again for the info, let us know when you get something on 151.295 and if you get the tone.

Love and Blessings

Well the static sound I was getting from 156.015 has stopped for now. Interesting it when on for 2 days or so. I know the squelch is set right. I have yet to hear anything come from 151.295, nothing on the hit counter either. I have 23 hits on the counter for 155.850.
