Specifically, in a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, the Commission will seek comment on
expanding satellite connectivity across four spectrum bands: 12.7-13.25 GHz, 42.0-42.5 GHz,
51.4-52.4 GHz, and the so-called “W-band” at 92.0-94.0 GHz, 94.1-100 GHz, 102.0-109.5
GHz, and 111.8-114.25 GHz.

Free space path loss at 111 GHz is about 138 dB at 1 mile, around 188 at 342 which is about where Elon's LEO satellites are.

An American agency enabling a cutting edge and successful American business to do more of what brings more jobs and related commerce to America. Nothing wrong with that. BTW: They won't be the only ones who benefit. Copycat Amazon/Bezos will likely benefit as well.

The FCC should just reverse auction all of the mmWave from 24, 28, 37, 39, and 47 GHz Verizon and AT&T (and even myself) hold for satellite use but Elon's too damn cheap to actually PAY for exclusive use of something - maybe Bezos's outfit might take a crack at it?

The current mmWave rules are aligned as if it would work well for terrestrial cellular use, it very clearly isn't good for it

I get what you are saying, and while I dont disagree with the premise, governments needs to be mindful of the optics of who gets the benefits of these things and their positions relative to the ones giving the benefits.
Since Elon has backed way off from his involvement in DOGE (disappointed that Congress sold-out and implemented nothing), and has suffered significant business losses due to partisan reprisals - boycotts, physical sabotage, and violence toward Tesla owners, he seems on an equal footing with anyone else seeking approval to grow his relatively-unique business.

Elon has open sourced much of their rocket research - to the benefit of competitors and even other nations. Billions of dollars and years saved for them. That's hardly the definition of 'cheap' - I don't see others sharing much.

Asking for spectrum that has previously sold for billions for $0 is absolutely cheap

Those are the optics I am talking about. If they were auctioned off and Elon was the high bidder over the rest, cool. If it goes any other way, then it looks bad.

Elon deciding to open source his technology to competitors has nothing to do with paying for federal government spectrum access.

But it doesn't matter, whether it's free 747 or radio spectrum, who cares. Nothing could possibly be crooked, nothing. It's all good, until it isn't.
I suppose we should return the Statue of Liberty gift as well? Boeing couldn't get the job done in time so the drowning-in-money Saudi's made a friendly gesture. How terrible. lol

Actually, it was Qatar. Yes, I'm sure they expect nothing in return for the $400 million plane they "gifted" to the president. They'll have to take plane apart piece by piece just to make sure it isn't littered with electronic snooping devices. :)

but the prior regime was voted out. Does this regime doing the same thing as the prior one justify it as being right?
Nope, but when some pretend that what's been mentioned can infer corruption - especially after the prior 4 years of in-your-face abuse of power and massive corruption - it sure smacks of hypocritical partisanship. (FYI: I've never been a Trump fan, so there's nothing to be gained by going there. I'm just a fan of the equal application of moral outrage.)

Sorry, trying to keep too many plates spinning here ... Raspberry Pi's & RustDesk misbehaving. And, no, Qatar knows better than to expect anything more than a visit to a Trump golf course and resort. (Especially since Democrats are on hyper-alert to attack at the slightest hint of an excuse.)

For the record, I didnt care for the previous and was hopeful for the current but have not liked what I have seen when it comes to letter of the law and following established processes. We are delving into politics probably more than the mods would like so ill just leave it at that. I appreciate the conversation which unfortunately is something that both sides dont seem to want to have with those who have opposing views.

Now back to our regulary scheduled threads about who encrypted and why we cant listen anymore ;)
