You would be better off performance-wise and budget-wise getting a netbook for your truck. Pretty much all of them have wi-fi built-in, they are faster, they're better-looking and you can do a lot more with them than you could with some ratty old MDT you find on eBay.

i might go down the netbook road, i am interested in the MW's because i like the way they mount and look, i want to use the touch screen for it, it makes it easier than typing and driving, but i will look into the netbooks,

I have a Motorola MW-520, the slower 333Mhz speed and it works fine on WinME. I use it for HAM GPS/APRS and Music Player, Mobile net with Wifi and tethered to my phone. I like the touchscreen on it, but it has a cool backlit mini keyboard/touch mouse, and I also have a touchscreen virtual keyboard for quick use. I find it better than a laptop cause of the quick buttons like dedicated volume, brightness, screen on/off and standby mode.

I was thinking of using it for the same reasons as you listed,
i am looking to use it for Signal stalking with my 396XT, i want to be able to load and copy the frequencies into a database for future use, i use excel for that,
also i would like to use it for our citywide hotspots, it covers about a 45 square block radius,
Music would be great too, i was thinking of sticking a 100GB hard drive in it,
what type of hard drive does the MW take? and is the memory upgradable?

I was just looking on ebay a few days ago and saw a 700mhz PIII MW520, it ran for about $199
I would like to have the touch screen option and back lit keyboard too,

It uses a standard laptop hard drive. The 700Mhz is the way to go, im upgrading soon. I only saw the 333 when I got mine, but I only paid $80 total, shipped. Mine has only 128MB of RAM and unfortunately on this model, its not upgradable, i tired to 256 with no luck. If you get a WIFI adapter with a Mag Mount WIFI antenna, they work great. I used to get internet almost anywhere with the adapter i had. Keep it mounted with a bracket and a few inches of free air space on top and bottom, dont sit it on anything or it will get hot. I added a small computer fan to blow on the heatsink for the processor on the bottom to keep it cool.
Batlabs.com has drivers for the monitor touchscreen, if you google search it, and I have some stuff too. PM me if you need anything.
