does anybody know why sometimes on a scene in nyc that the FDNY is at that sometimes the FDNY’s portable radios send out 1 quick little beep as an id when they let go of the PTT button and other times the portable radios send out 2 quick little beeps as an id when they let go of the PTT button.

The single “beep” is when the radio transmit MDC-1200 for the dispatch system.
The double “beep” is when the radio transmits the portable ID Via TPS (tactical public safety) basically its p25 ID transmitted in an analog environment. It allows the portables to have more than a 4 digit ID.
