Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

FDNY TPS on APX8000XE

Good afternoon. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to mimic the double TPS data burst on an APX8000XE similar to what the FDNY uses on their “HT” channels? I believe it has to do with the firefighter accountability system that they use. Can anyone provide any information on this or possibly photos from a code plug showing the correct way of setting it up?

Thanks.

Mine does not. My Motorola dealer had tried messing with one that did and could not mimic it. I had gotten my hands on an FDNY APX and can confirm that the 2 bursts do indeed originate from the radio and not an “on scene gateway” as some other forums have stated was a possibility. I believe the “FDNY TONE” flash code is their unique distress/man down alert.

Copsounds and Firesounds are only useful if your agency dictates their use. For literally EVERYBODY else, they are proof of a high level of whackerage and you WILL be pissing off whomever else has to share the frequency with you.

Be sure to wear your helmet when making your radio transmit Copsounds/Firesounds:
