There is an inordinate amount of hysteria in that article. If countries like US and Canada want stuff made in North America, by 'mericans, they have to bring back the high tech manufacturing base and pay workers a decent wage. Outsourcing like Apple does erodes the national security.
If on the other hand the goal is to buy the lowest priced crap, then we have to maintain some balance of diplomacy as currently we are dependent upon the world for everything. Except missiles , bombers and jet fighters. Those we make a shipload of.

Oh lord. I bet Motorola is having a good ole LOL at this due to their battle with Hytera who owns Sinclair.
Whats next? Radio filters.. huge security risk these days, eh

The thing of it is.. this is a Canadian based company in Ontario. Everyone had their stuff and now ALL of a sudden its no good because Hytera as the parent company and the Chinese government just happens to own a bit of them?
How much of the US government owns Motorola?
If some news reporter dug deep into things, I'm sure they could find a boat load of other companies that the federal government uses that also "has ties" to China. Only thing they did here was hurt a Canadian based manufacture. I hope they have to pay out a bunch of money for breaching their contract

Government did not consider security concerns in bid to build and maintain RCMP radio equipment.

What the upshot of it is, is that Comprod, based in Quebec, didn't like the fact that their bid was $60k higher and played the Chinese card. Since our government bends over backwards to appease Quebec, it's likely that the contract with Ontario based Sinclair will be dropped and awarded to Comprod.

Yes, you read that right. Sinclair Technologies. Makers of fine RF filtering equipment, antennas and other RF gear that are used in thousands of public safety systems across the North American continent.

Nothing more to see here than politics.

Sounds like that barn door was left open too long ago. The Hytera hysteria will be here soon as many US federal agencies currenty use Sinclair products. They are a fine product. North American investors are fixated on shiny stuff like Twitter, not "buggy whips" like LMR combiner.
