Hey guys,

Sorry if this is a repeat question. I’ve done some reading here and hadn’t seen quite the answer to my question. I think I may need a filter for scanning on my SDS200. even my closest site on a p25 trunking system shows widely ranging noise values, oddly sometimes worse than other times. I think a filter may help me overcome this. My question is, I scan a mixture of 700 and 800 MHz systems and don’t know what kind of filter may best fit my needs. I do scan also 150-160 MHz but have another scanner I can use for this range. The wife just doesn’t like seeing all the scanners in the living room haha.

The naming that Uniden use isn't really correct, as is the names for the different filter settings. Instead of noise it should say modulation level. If you have a digital signal it will treat it as audio/noise. You can only use Noise level when monitoring an analog channel and only when it is quiet when no one are talking but still transmits a carrier.

For digital systems you can only use the D-Error value, bit errors, to see how many errors you get and you should of course aim for the lowest amount of errors.

Are you in close proximity to a cell tower or other strong nearby transmitter? Have you ruled out sources of RFI within your monitoring location?
