If I get too close to a tower, such as the one by the Peoria PD station at 83rd Ave and Cinnabar Ave, or at the Greenway Water Treatment Plant at 73rd Ave (or so) and Greenway Rd., my PSR-500 gets swamped and won't receive anything in the 700/800/900 MHz range.

Now that IS strange.

I have not observed that happening with the PSR-500, PRO-106, or WS1040. Perhaps there is something unique about your unit in that regard. I would offer to meet and compare but the last one of those three just found a new home to help pay for the new SDS200 (wallet still smarting from that purchase). My only device left from that family is the WS1065 (PSR-600) and it's bolted down and serving as my dedicated MCSO smartzone scanner (that's about all it's good for these days - never was much of a VHF / UHF scanner and it's horrid with simulcast).
