We finished our Ham Classes tonight and took the basic exam....91% WOOT!! With honors to boot!

I guess that's what you get after reading the RAC study guide a few times and then doing about 100 practice tests over 12 weeks. I missed a few on propagation, but I'm sure I'll figure all that out as I follow the hobby.

Waiting to hear about the call sign now, but my first choice was my initials (VA6SMS) and my second choice was something fun (VA6TNA)....

See you on the airwaves soon!

You get to request your initial callsign now? That's cool. I had to buy the one I wanted, but not until after I was issued one at random.

Regardless, congrats on passing your test. It's a fun hobby. Find a local club, join, and get involved. If the club is any good at all, they'll find ways to keep you busy. There's lots to do out there.

Yup, you get 3 choices, then they assign. Congrats :)

I got to choose mine, but that was back in the 80s.

The written test was easy, but then I've been an electronics/radio geek since I was 12.
Morse was a beeotch.

Yeah....didn't have to do the morse code thank goodness. I'll worry about that later. I'm thinking about taking the advanced, but I'm going to have to study a little more for that.

I take it that we (canadians) are able to choose our call signs, while US amateurs are not?

Morse wont be required much longer. :) I've heard they are doing away with it. I got my ticket in 1996 and just did the NO CODE TECH. I need to upgrade to GENERAL so I can DX my parents in California.

LOL....wrote the test wednesday night, and then checked the RAC database last night and they've already got the entire class in there. My callsign is VA6SMS.
