I was listening to SBCO #2 I Noticed heavy radio traffic on the FireTac-2 ID. I assume that Fire comm is Ft. Irwin Fire, and they were testing radio range. Anybody have an idea?

Ft Irwin Fire just went Paramedic. They needed to have an 800mhz link to Loma Linda Univ. Med Center. (County EMS requires two methods for ALS contact - most agencies use a cellphone and 800mhz radio). SB County installed a 800mhz site to cover the base and linked it back to the "2-system" in Barstow. There is one conventional EMS channel, one Fire channel (for County Fire use), and one LAW channel. The base will still be using their UHF trunked system for fire dispatch. They were testing the new site and what coverage it provides.

2-ftac-2 was a temporary link in order to test without annoying everyone. You "should" hear the fire link back to 2-Fire-1, the law link to 2-DC-1 (or whatever SBSD uses in Barstow), and the EMS link will most likely be on 2-ALS-2.

2-dc-1 is the barstow station talkgroup. Not familiar with the 2-ALS-2 Group ID. I have always heard them call Arrowhead or Loma Linda on 2-ftac-1. Would you happen to know what the talkgroup ID would be for the ALS channel?

2-ALS-1 should be 4816 and ALS-2 should be 4848. I found this under the "1-system" list. Each system should be the same. 2-FTAC-1 was used during the time that all radios did not have "ALS". It is possible there are still some medics that have not received word to change but this was supposed to have stopped a long time ago. How recent have you heard them using FTAC?

Wasn't that long ago. I want to say like a month ago. I know I found a repeater for the lenwood mall area for barstow pd, D-law-5. If you are ever out that way you can hear there really good.
