So I am just curious, the city i live in is currently adding the phoenix g2 system to all fire stations...I have the sds 100 BTW and 2 weeks ago I heard the tone before the automated dispatch and now I don't hear that tone. Any reason as to why I don't hear the tone but I hear the automated voice dispatch?? Also they are on a p25 phase 2 system

One of the reasons fire departments go to station alerting like Phoenix, Bryx, Locution, etc. is to make the waking up in the middle of the night less shocking to sleeping firefighters. There is likely a tone heard in the stations that ramps up in volume along with color coded lights for specific units. It's likely a lot of this is happening over the city's LAN/WAN, cellular, and radio. Over the radio is primarily for those units not in the station. It's probably an option to have the tone, but maybe they're trying it without or just haven't set everything up yet.

Maybe a little clarification should be done since he came to the Arizona page. Phoenix G2 is just a name that Digital Systems chose.

Here in the valley we still hear the alert tone over the radio just the same as always. Also the G2 package works independent of the radio traffic and can sometimes send the dispatches to the station long before they are sent over the radio based on the amount of call in the que.

The G2 system dispatches via LAN/ WAN. Unless the agency wants to, most of the systems do not go over the air, now NFPA says you are suppose to have a back up so RF (radio). If you are hearing the dispatch and no tone, as was stated before these systems come with heartsaver tones built in, and may only go over the radio after the station is alerted, lights and sounds are herd over station public address. There are many ways to set these up. And in some cases, like Las Vegas, all silent dispatching with no dispatching over the air.

They are also likely receiving alerts on devices including their cell phones and computers/iPads in apparatus.
