Hello all, I was listening to a house fire call the other day when the chief told fire dispatch "The fire is PAR" Anyone know what PAR stands for?

"Personnel Accountability Report" It is usually done while on the scene at different intervals such as 20 minutes into a situation. Hope this helps. Hoser

I've never heard the term used in that context. In Oregon it is basically a roll call of the companies working at a fire to be sure all firefighters are accounted for. Here, Command will say "We will now take a PAR".

I agree with Dick, not really sure how the way it was quoted would be interpreted, unless the IC was telling dispatch that there would be no further need for PAR, or just that PAR is Ok till the next check.

In the years I have monitored FDs in Salt Lake (County and City) I have not heard it said like that.

I have always heard the fire dispatcher "remind" the on-scene fire official with command responsibility that it is time for a PAR check at about 20 ~ 25 minutes on scene. Simply put, make sure none of your firemen are missing or unaccounted for. This is usually continued at regular intervals until the fire is declared out or the commanding official sees no reason to continue with them and tells the dispatcher to cease with the reminders.

Watching our local fire dept practice with the ladder truck in the nearby church parking lot,
I thought it would be a good time to ask the truck operator "What does PAR stand for?"
He said "Personnel Accounting and Reporting" Then he opened the door of the truck to show a board.
It had three columns and used magnetic name plates. The columns were:
AT TRUCK, AT SCENE OR FIRE, and AT REHAB

Fire depts all over the U.S. learn from each others successes and mistakes.
When an effective protocol is developed that reduces risk, most fire depts like to adopt it.
So whatever fire dept you are listening to, PAR means basically the same thing.
Are all of your firefighters accounted for?
