I have some fire departments using the following two tone pairs:

Tone A Tone B

953.7 hZ 568.7 hZ
953.7 hZ 399.8 hZ
953.7 hZ 600.9 hZ
953.7 hZ 953.7 hZ

If I set my device to:

Tone A Tone B

953.7 hZ 0

will it open up for all agencies that have the A Tone of 953.7 hZ?

Conversely, I have some other fire departments using the following two tone pairs:

Tone A Tone B

726.8 hZ 832.5 hZ
1217.8 hZ 832.5 hZ
569.1 hZ 832.2 hZ
368.5 hZ 832.5 hZ
510.5 hZ 832.5 hZ

If I set my device to:

Tone A Tone B

0 832.5 hZ

will it open up for all agencies that have the B Tone of 832.5 hZ?

I know that timing used to be a concern, but I understand that firmware updates have made this a non-issue. I probably will try this at some point, but I suspect that somebody here already knows the answer.

That should work.

In configurations like that, there could also be an all-call where the common tone is sent as a single long tone, opening all of the receivers at once. You might try putting those tones in as Tone B (with no Tone A) and see if that ever trips.

A quick question on FTO on the 396XT: I know you can set it for up to 10 tone sets; do they all have to be on the same fx or can they be on two or more fx's?

The 10 sets can be on different frequencies, but it will only monitor those on the same frequency and modulation as I understand it.

Fire Tone Out Search Logging

I have been using the Uniden Bearcat BCD996XT under Butel ARC XT Pro software lately and it does a very nice job logging the found pairs used when in the Fire Tone-Out Search mode. The biggest shortcoming is determining who each page is for, so I have started using the recording feature of ARC XT Pro. It should be a simple task of playing the audio files and comparing the time stamp on the History Log to the time given in the page out as well as agency name. I am wondering if anybody else here is doing this as a supplement to the Tone-Out Search mode?
