• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi, I have a Jag 700Pi. The current firmware loaded is:

DSP RAM I6R05F01
FLASH S1R04A04

This is a ProVoice-enabled unit. What is the latest firmware available for this radio, and where can I get it flashed? The local MA/COM radio shop is clueless and has no idea what I'm talking about.

If they can program the radio, and they're using a REAL GE/Ericsson/Macom radio interface box,
they can upgrade the radio. All that has to be done is for the new flash
files to be in a directory where they can be found, and when going to reprogram your
radio, a box comes up that allows you to navigate to and select a new radio code file
and a new DSP file. Select the appropriate files (the software will keep you from selecting
one that's not appropriate for the radio) and then click OK. It'll take a few minutes
for the new firmware to transfer, but the process is painless.

If they don't know how to do this, they're not worth a crap as a dealer and M/A-Com
should drop them instantly. They demand that their dealerships be technically competent.

Many forum members here could do the flash for you. Or if you have "genuine" radio
programming gear and the programmer software, all you have to do is get the flash
files and do it yourself.

The latest version of the flashcode and DSP guide that I have says that your radio should
be flashed to the following versions:

Flash S1R05E05, DSP of I6R06D01. (Incidentally, your radio has DES and has a KRD
series model number, judging by the versions you say your radio has in it now.)

But, your firmware really isn't all that old. If it's working fine for you and you aren't
in need of any specific new features, there's no real need to upgrade if you're not
having any problems.

Will it improve the recovered audio quality of provoice transmissions? (Kind of like what DSP 8 did to Motorola astro saber/xts 3000 radios)

Frankly, I don't know. I guess it's possible. But for that issue, I must defer to those who'd know better than I do.

If you have the capability to program your radio yourself and just need the firmware files, I have i6r06b01.dsp which is not exactly the same version but it is pretty recent,
but I don't have the radio code file I mentioned.

Flash codes R5C03 and finally R5E05 resolved the battery monitoring problems. R5E05 has the most accurate battery guage and low battery warning. Furthermore R5E05 puts in a mic AGC setting. It's not specified in Programmer but it is for Provoice. This option requires Programmer R16 and higher. It is listed under the general options (radio wide setting) and has steps of 0dB, 6dB and 12dB. Programmer defaults to 12dB which can cause a lot of background noise to foul up the vocoder. It gets worse with a shoulder mic and the ext mic gain set to high. Make sure you start with 0dB, Macom fixed the default to this in RPM.

Other than that for recovered Provoice audio, check your system. The main concern in these cases is a high bit error rate. Provoice is very robust on error correction and can really dig a signal out of the mud. The radios usually carry the blame but the really the system needs to be setup and aligned correctly for Provoice in order for it to work.

Try programming a conventional simplex car to car channel in a few radios and talk around the system to cut it out of the picture.
