I just downloaded and installed a new fw update with Sentinel. I have no idea yet what changed.

Well.... good guess. I heard some DMR comms and found it clearer than before. No other changes noted yet

Certainly seems much better on one T3 system I monitor, now to try some DCDM/DMR Simplex.
Maybe this is a better release than weve got used to accepting or maybe the sudden boost in revenue from lockdown listeners and dPMR upgrade sales has started to filter through. We will see.
Maybe JB will at least let us have a release note update!

Note these are 'E' models. There will be an update for the 'Non-E' models at some point. (several updates in fact)
Can you provide any release notes?
We are all puzzling over here as to what exactly it does but I can certainly hear a marked improvement in the Audio both Analog & Digital but the Ultra Narrow 3.25 kHz step option has now disappeared?

I have no info about 'E' models.
That’s a shame as we are pretty isolated over here with support limited to a few FB groups.
Not having our own database means we have to do everything the hard way building all our FLs from scratch and discovering our systems manually.

I will say that 1.22 appears to have made a considerable improvement to both Analog and Digital Reception especially voice frame detection and AM clarity on Airband which is a primary interest in the UK as most of our Public Services are Tetra Encrypted and not scannable.

What we can scan on VHF/UHF wasn’t being delivered well on the SDS but so far I must say this update has made a notable difference so well done from us.
Look forward to seeing what the Official US version brings and the responses from your users.

I’ve had a complaint concerning the SDS series when used on the air band since it was first introduced here in the states. You mention improvements on the “E” models… I wonder if that enhancement is already included in my scanner?

I was thinking about everyone who purchased a SDSx00(E) in the last years. In fact we bought a lame scanner with a hum and bad modulation. The hum can be reduced with a palliative but you better are a good solderer to fix this problem forever. Since a few days the modulation is significant improved with the latest firmware update, at least for the European versions. Why did it took so long to take this problem seriously and fix it? A lot of people sold their scanner because they thought they bought a rickety rattle box. For satisfaction we should get partial refund or for instance a free update to Tetra.

Nice idea but wont float as your SDS (E) support is only with theUK/EU distributors.

I really doubt Tetra will ever find its way into this radio, it just doesnt have the demand in the US and whilst in europe its popular the vast majority of implementations are encrypted anyway so it just doesnt make fiscal sense?

Even if there was enough usable code space in the SDS inner workings to take it I think that rather poor Raphael DVBT tuner will never be able to handle the strong near band signals used here in the UK similat to those encountered on VHF AM.
Dead duck that one I reckon.

There where no update to the DSP, that handles the decode of digital signals and the audio levels and EQ settings. If some users report improved digital decode quality then it has to be from changing the receiver settings, like the bandwidth of NFM or the total gain. The user manual for SDS100E/200E says sensitivity are nominal 0,4uV and limit 1,6uV without going out of specification. That allows Uniden to experiment with at least a 12dB gain difference. Maybe release notes will come at a later stage that explains exactly what has been done.

Has there ever been any thought of radio reference UK maintaining a database the way it is in USA. I mean it would be great to connect sentinel and have the database all UK systems as opposed to USA which is useless to SDS100E SDS200E owners really.

I know you can manually load hpe and build favourites lists. However this is painstaking at times. We don't have the lazy man's scanning ability here quite the contrary.

It would make sense for the UK equivalent.
