My BDC325P2 has version: 1.08.01 and the new version is 1.09.12.

On the update page I see: If your scanner's serial number starts with 379B, be sure to use ONLY this (or newer) version. The scanner will stop working using earlier versions. If your scanner's serial number starts with 379Z, you can update to this (or newer) versions.

My SR# starts with 3792. I don't want to brick my scanner. Should I update or not?

Thanks

It's an update that was made to accommodate minor hardware changes . You can safely update, but it's not going to change anything as there's no functional changes from 1.08.01. Overall, no real reason to do it.

It's a warning for users who have more recently purchased the BCD325P2 that contain the new hardware, they cannot downgrade firmware or they will lose functionality.

FWIW, my 325P2 serial starts with 3792 and is currently using firmware v1.09 .12
Its quite possible I did an update myself sometime in the past.

You said --- "My SR# starts with 3792", That is the ESN (Electronic Serial Number) not the Radio's serial number...
There is probably a label in the battery compartment with the radio's serial number...

If it is 379Z that is the original hardware version...
If it is 379B that is the new hardware version, as in chips replaced that are hard to get or no longer available...

Firmware --- 1.09.12
If your scanner's serial number starts with 379B, be sure to use ONLY this (or newer) versions. The scanner will stop working using earlier versions.

If your scanner's serial number starts with 379Z, you can update to this (or newer) versions.

This version is a housekeeping update to accommodate revised hardware - No functional change from 1.08.01.

So if it is a "Z" version, it will not break the radio...
The 'Z" version can run the newest (Latest) Fimware...

Actually, the serial number label is under the belt clip.
n my comment above I stated the "SN" as displayed under Settings>See Scanner Info>Firmware Version. Mine is indeed 379Z as shown on the label.
Thanks for clarifying this.

Thanks for the info. I found the barcode with the SR# and it is 379Z.

Is there a way to move back the firmware from 1.09 back to 1.08 or is it impossible?

If this is correct from Unidens firmware page, Maybe...
I don't have a 325 to see what it does... It does say select scanner model and firmware version... So maybe you can go back...

BCD325P2 Firmware Updates
All firmware updates are applied using BC_VUP3. Download BC_VUP3 Firmware Updater for DMA Scanners, unzip the file, then run the installer (Setup_BC_VUP.msi) to install this utility. Then, run the utility and follow the on-screen prompts to select the scanner model and firmware version to apply.

So I have the software installed but it's looking for the firmware file ~ every time I go to the uniden website and put in my model it says the only downloads are the user manual. I have the bcd325p2 that's probably 4 -5 years old, works perfectly with firmware 1.06.00 I've been fighting this all night.
