Hello,
I reside in Brampton, Ontario. After doing a lot of internet investigating, I concluded I was in way over my head when it came to which scanner I should buy. I finally found a shop in Whitby, Ontario that was able to assist me better understand which scanner would best suit my needs.
I ended up purchasing the Uniden BCD-396XT.
Needless to say, like many others I was quite disappointed with the manual that came with it. And at the price I paid I kinda felt like a sucker. But I'm not here to bash the makers of the product. I'm here to figure out how to get this thing up and running to accomodate my needs.
I'm not technically savvy when it comes to scanners; computers yes, but not scanners. I'm new to scanners and still learning the lingo. The wiki's have been helpful but there's so much information out there and before my membership on Radio Reference.com expires I'd like to have something to show for my investments. I say investments because not only did I purchase the scanner, but I purchased the optional USB cable, and then.....after all the reading I did, I figured I'd have problems programming the scanner, so I purchased ARC-XT PRO.
I wasn't sure if I should post this under the software section, or the hardware section because it kind of applies to both I guess, so I apologize if I goofed on posting this in the wrong section.
When I purchased the scanner, out of the box it came with a bunch of U.S counties set up (which I have no use for). So, I deleted all systems and added what I was interested in. And what I'm interested in is the following :
1) Toronto Police
2) Toronto ByLaw (Parking Control)
3) Peel Regional Police
4) Peel Regional ByLaw (Parking Control)
According to the ARC-XT PRO software I purchased, I've now got two systems on my scanner:
#1) Name : Toronto Type : Conventional
#2) Name : PeelRegion/Motor Type : Motorola
But whenever I'm at home (Brampton) I can't seem to scan the Toronto system. Is it because I have to be in the Toronto area? I'm sorry if that's a goofy question, but like I said....I am new to this and I'd like to learn more. There's just so much out there and I am very eager to get this up and running.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
