• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

Since you are looking at Uniden ht's, I'm going to suggest the 396XT. It gives you more versatility than the 346XT that I'll bet was the other scanner. Your county isn't P-25 dgitial, but has moved to an analog/digital system. With www.freescan you can import and load the scanner up in now time at all. Importing from Radio Reference does require a minimum premium subscription.

In my opinion, I suggest you get an older model and see if you're still interested first before getting the latest and greatest. Since you area has a little digital and you're just jumping into scanning, I recommend the BCD396T as that will enable you listen to public safety in your area. The BCD396XT is $200 more at most places for a few bells and whistles that you may not need. But if you can afford it, knock yourself out!

Here is a comparison....
