This evening I saw my first tornado!!!! I am 42 and had never seen one before, and I got to see two! They were probably 8 or 9 miles away, and the first one .....I thought was just a low cloud. But the second one... I watched it come down from the cloud, stay on the ground about 30 seconds, and lift back up. The first might have been an F1, the second probably an F0, but hey, I figure, it counts!

Now I see why storm chasing is so addictive. What a rush!

Yes it is.... It's very addictive!

Throw in the chatter of a ham radio or scanner bouncing, and your adrenaline will really be pumped!!!

Seeing tornadoes in Missouri is one thing but seeing a flock of water spouts on Raritan Bay and a tornado hit Staten Island (Richmond Borough NYC) is quite a once in a lifetime thing. From Elizabeth NJ I had a good but distant view but unfortunately I didn't have any NYPD or NYFD frequencies programmed. The USCG was broadcasting the alert but that's rather like listening to the same thing on the WX channel. Oh well, at least I saw the damage and a lot of chagrined people when the TV crews arrived.

No the scanner wasn't bouncing, I'd be the one chagrined if it was. (;->)
