During the Halloween pirate fest this past weekend, I was picking up some activity on 6953 khz USB between two fisherman, both with heavy New England accents. The talk was about fishing, weather conditions, etc. Both were heard very well here. Very informal conversation with much colorful language, and of course no legal IDs.

Two shrimpers "Candyman" and "Bubba" conversing on 6835 USB tonight, both strong signals with southern accents talking about shrimping, "ridin' the tides", etc. Signed off with Bubba telling Candyman "okay, 10-4" and Candyman responds "Put it on 3-26 real quick - that's a real pretty girl on there right now!"

:D I will start listening in on these frequencies and see if I can pick up any conversation from where I am. Thanks for the frequencies!

The 16Mhz frequencies are right in the Marine Band so they're probably legit, although that's a strange frquency to use. 6835kHz is outside the band so they are not!

We have a lot of problems down here with the Korean fishing boats using any old frequency they like. They must have some other form of communication, say SatFone or a pre-arranged schedule, as they suddenly just pop up and start yelling or whistling on frequency then a short pause for the others (sometimes there's a round table!) to join in, Usually lasts about an hour or so and you can hear them getting more and more drunk! They often appear near 8867kHz, the South Pacific Aero frequency in the early evening.

Yeah I notice that most of the commercial fishermen tend to show up out of band. Fishermen can be quite interesting to listen and don't mind vulgar language. This past summer I frequently stumbled across commercial fishermen on 8935 LSB that utilize voice scramblers for "sensitive" traffic.

Two boats talking. Strings of 100 to 170 (of what?). Heavy rains and winds to 40 knots. There is a big low pressure system off Long Island right now, so they must be out there somewhere. One Capt'n sounded like from Boston, the other saying stuff like "a-boot" so perhaps Canadian.

I get a whole lot of these in the 4 MHz band (between 4100 and 4500 kHz) and also in the 8 MHz marine band. Then again I'm not terribly far from the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean.

Hi Larry, yea, I pick them up from time to time also. I thought I would start posting them, every one ask's for frequencies fisherman are on so I will share them.

 Of topic Larry, just wondering how you are picking up Camslant Coast Guard down your way, on 8983 or 5696 khz, I have been listening again but there audio is so distorted I can not understand them, it's been that way for some time, I have tried every different setup with my Icom r75 receiver and still can not clean up the audio. Are you having problems with there audio.
