Guys, the still-unidentified Zone 2 Site 38 is full strength here west of Toronto at 9AM today (August 30th) on 142.590, as are Haliburton, Bancroft & Apsley on their respective control channels.

Frequencies active are 141.705, 142.590 (CC), 142.635, 143.085, 143.505 & 143.775. With just Unitrunker here I don't see any site ID descriptor other than 38.

Below is current activity and the peers reported.

Cheers!

Bob

Interesting, how long has this new site been around?

Looking at the TGs, Lindsay, Bancroft etc. it's a bit close to Pontypool to share a primary CC frequency on a regular basis. Anyway, someone running TRUNK88, Trunker etc.or even old Treport software could grab the Site Alias...has worked in the past for localizing sites.

Hey Bob,

I'll be in Cobourg on Saturday so I'll try and study it. I generally monitor Pontypool Zone 1 and Cobourg Zone 2 from there.

Looking at an Ontario map and the neighbour list you provided, my guesses are Maynooth or Combermere

At home here it is currently coming in as SID:782 -038 Pontypool but sunset can bring in some interesting catches.

(Oh yeah, I fixed your spelling mistake in the title :D )

Thanks Mike, I saw the spelling error after I posted the message. <G>

Site 38 was first seen by yours-truly around 18 months ago and someone here estimated a pretty likely general location based on it's neighbors. I've never been up that way with a radio at hand but I'd have thought someone else may have by now. I have Treport but naturally it's not going to play nicely with 64 bit Windows 10 so that's out for me.

Here's the original thread from March 2015:

Use a program like trunk88 that will display the site alias. That will absolutely help you identify the location.

Also just a thought. The area to the south east of Algonquin has really crappy Fleetnet coverage, perhaps they installed a fill in site.

Apsley good and clear this morning on 142.530, Pontypool dominating 142.590 at the moment, plus Haliburton on 142.950.

Thank Exkalibur, I did run Trunk88 just now and for a brief couple of minutes Pontypool was swamped by Zone 2 Site 38 and the site ID captured was HARCOU, presuming Harcourt based on the neighbors.

Job done??? <G>

Glad to finally capture the information Mike, and as you know persistence is my middle name when it comes to the "unknown" on the airwaves... :D

Yes, good work on that.

I recall when Site 37 came along, looking at the site map there was a "hole" somewhere around Kemptville, which was encircled by the neighbour sites. I drew lines between them and ones which crossed pointed close to the actual site (Millar's Corners).

Site Alias should show up on some scanner displays (not some of the older ones). Some are quite logical, others a bit less, like CARLSL which turned out to be the Carlisle building in downtown Ottawa; and MARTHN which is the "other" Marathon Ont, near Kinburn.
