Is their system also encrypted, or is it "just" digital? If it's just digital shouldn't the new digital scanners be able to monitor it? I'm especially interested in the Pensacola area. I see, even on Radio Reference there's no frequency info for that part of the state yet.

FHPis blocked two different ways.

First it is a macom provoice system. No scanner can work on provoice. The process is protected by patents.

Second, it uses full time encryption to make sure that no one can even buy a macom radio and try to tune in.

Encrypted FHP

Hey Mike, I was going to answer that question but your email is darn picky! And I was going to direct you here, see you are smart enough to find it alone!
Anyway, FHP is indeed boring, I laugh when I would see that Highway Patrol show on TV, busting smugglers, and helocopter chases! If they ever filmed here it would be speeding tickets and Signal 4's.
As long as you listen to Fire/EMS you'll hear the good MVA's.

I listened to FHP when they were on VHF, The transit bus dispatch is more interesting!
If you must know about their calls though they do post a web site of active calls:

Most of FHP is typicially dispatched via their MDT's now. There aren't too
many "dispatched" calls over the air anymore, so even if you had a way to listen to the new system there wouldn't be that much air traffic.

FHP's ETA's suck out loud. When the phone rings 10-20 times before they answer, and when their units take 1-2 hours to get on scene, you know you have a problem.

Instead of buying encrypted radios, they should have spent that money to hire more troopers and dispatchers. And their radio activity IS boring.

What ticks me off about the encryption is how cool it would have been to listen to the hurricane comm's last year.
