I am coming to volusia county in Florida this Sunday. I would like to bring my uniden sds100 to listen to local public safety. My question is does anyone know in this day and time if I can bring my sds100 in my carry on through tsa on the airplane or not?

Will the lithium ion batteries be a problem? Best advice? I plan to have my amateur radio license with me in case there are any issues. I know the scanner laws down there.

Hundreds of plane trips and ZERO issues with portable radios and scanners in my carry-on bag / backpack. Only second glance was about the antenna on x-ray - maybe twice. Otherwise, one TSA agent asked about ham radio, etc.

Don't remove it from your bag, though. Put your cellphone next to it and push the bag through the scanner. You shouldn't have any issues.

See / Search for the multiple, annual asking of the same question.

No there is No TSA/FAA/Airline/FCC prohibition on the transportation of two-way, receive only or other electronic devices (except Lithium battery issues) on our Transportation Systems.

There IS the prohibition of Operating the Radio (RX and TX) devices on-board the aircraft tho.

As to the Battery issue and any recent changes, you are best to check the TSA and Airline web sites directly (your self)

No problem as long as it’s in the carry on because of the battery. Once got on a plane with 4 HT’s, & 8 batteries. They announced all the overhead bins were full, & bags now had to be checked. I told the pilot I had the batteries so my bag couldn’t be checked. Someone else’s overhead bag who didn’t have batteries got checked, & mine went overhead.

Lithium Ion batteries should only be in your carry on. Not checked baggage. If they start burning, being in the cabin, they can be dealt with.
