Radio Installation Nears Completion
Monday, April 21, 2008 9:35 AM CDT

The new Arkansas Wireless Information Network countywide digital radio system is installed in all law enforcement agency vehicles in the county, Sebastian County Department of Emergency Management Deputy Coordinator Tonya Roberts told the Quorum Court last week.

Mobile radios have been installed in all but about 10 rural fire department vehicles, she said.

The deputies are happy with the system; no dead (transmission) spots have been found yet in the county, Roberts said. Emergency Medical Services will be cutover to the new system within the next couple of weeks, she said.

In a written report provided the justices of the peace, Roberts said all law enforcement officials from all Sebastian County agencies excluding Fort Smith have AWIN portable handheld radios, including the Sheriff’s Department and the Hartford, Central City, Bonanza, Greenwood, Huntington, Barling, Lavaca, Mansfield, Hackett and Fort Chaffee police departments.
The Sheriff’s Department cutover began April 10, and should be complete by Wednesday, she said.
