You will not be able to listen to the city or county. Fort Wayne City and Allen County Sheriff are all digital. You will need a pro 96 or a pro 2096 to listen to them.

Actually, you would be able to use any of the following to monitor Allen County/Ft Wayne digital communications:

Uniden/Bearcat models:
BC250D (Not compliant for rebanding)
BC785D (Not compliant for rebanding)
BC296D
BC796D
BCD396T
BCD996T
Grecom Models:
PSR-500
PSR-600
Radio shack Models:
Pro-2096
Pro-96

Be prepared to spend around $500 new for any of these models. However, you might be able to find deals on ebay.

Also, if you simply want to experiment with Trunking, there are several systems in Ft Wayne that are still analog. The Allen County Government Services system, and Chadmoore Wireless system are still within your reach with that unit you have. As maddogdecker stated however, public safety will not be an option with the Pro-97.

Damn

Well,

That pretty well explains that...I guess I will be returning the one for another...so then can win97 be used to program the digital scanners as well???

I guess I should have just put one foot into the trunking world as opposed to both...

Win96 only programs the Radio Shack Models (Pro-96 and Pro-2096). I'm not sure about GRE because I've never owned one, but I'm sure there is some type of software out there for them. Uniden however comes with the software to program for free, as opposed to Win96 that you will pay 30-40 bucks for. The software I like and use for my Unidens is the ARC250 software, which is not freeware and will cost you. It really just depends on what unit you choose. Likewise, there are people that will swear by RS, and people who like the Unidens better. As a owner of two digital Unidens, and one digital RS, I can only really say that they each have their own significant features and I wouldnt put one before the other. They both produce a superb radio. Although, comparing apples to oranges is a whole different ballgame entirely. Do the research for yourself, and decide which suits your needs, hobby wise as well as financially, and get back to us here at RR. There are plenty of people here who are knowledgeable and willing to lend a hand or answer questions. Good Luck!!

Pro-96

Hey Schnit
Ended up going and getting the pro-96 and love it. what a machine!!!

With the help of maddogdecker I was able to figure out exactly what I needed. Thanks to him again.

I will say that it was expensive there is no doubt about that but it is worth it. One thing I have already noticed is that there is a lot of traffic in fortwayne. But now at least I have things to talk about with the people in here and hopefully as find stuff out about this scanner you guys will be able to walk me through stuff.

Thanks

If your interested, I'd be happy to help you program it and even share my own .p96 file with you. I own a copy of Win96, and it certainly does make programming alot easier. Congratulations on your purchase!
