If you would like to put your scanner online, I can host the stream for you on the same server I use to host around 50 scanner streams from around Georgia (and a couple in Florida).

I'll provide you with a customized Oddcast setup package (with simple setup instructions) to get you going. The Oddcast program will record the audio from your scanner and send it to my audio server. When people listen to your scanner they'll connect to my server and use my bandwidth, they will not connect to your home PC (which means you don't need to open up any ports in your firewall).

In addition to hosting the audio stream I'll create a web site that will be the home for the stream, a place people can go to listen to your scanner (which would show up in search results when people search for sites in your area). The web site will contain information about the stream (such as codes and signals used, zone maps, etc. if available) as well as forums. The site will also contain some content-related ads to cover the cost of providing the free stream hosting.

As a provider of a scanner stream you will receive recognition on the home page as well as have the ability to post news items on the home page, get the rank of "Scanner Feed Provider" in the forums and have forum moderator privelages (if you want them).

You can go to http://www.ScanCobb.com or http://www.ScanOconee.com to see a couple of sites I have created to provide homes for scanner streams provided by others. I provide 8 streams myself for my first scanner site, http://www.ScanGwinnett.com

Bill Oldsen took me up on my offer, you can now listen to Denver Police and Fire radio communications at www.ScanDenver.net.

You can use just about any media player to listen to the scanner (Windows Media Player, iTunes, RealPlayer, Winamp, etc), you can even listen using a Windows Mobile cell phone using GSPlayer, Pocket Player, or Resco Player.

All audio from the scanner is being archived in 15 minute blocks and will be kept for around 30 days, to listen to recorded audio click on the Feed Archive link in the menu on the left-side of the home page.

It sound great. I noticed he is streaming fire on the left channel and police on the right channel. It sounds great 2 hear both going on at once.

I did something similar on ScanGwinnett on July 4th on my Fire & EMS feed which my regular listeners loved.

I switched the feed to stereo (it's normally mono) and had our fire department's dispatch and tactical channels in the left channel and used a second scanner to put only fire dispatch in the right channel. This gauranteed that people could always hear fire dispatch no matter what other channels were in use.

Before setting up the feed the way I did I conducted a mini-poll to find out what people wanted to hear (fire dispatch in one channel and all the TAC channels in the other channel, fire dispatch in one or both channels with half the TAC channels on the left and the other half on the right, or the way I described above).

I switched the feed back to mono the next morning since I borrowed a scanner from another feed of mine to create the stereo Fire & EMS feed.
