An elderly couple were killed yesterday when their car rolled down an embankment and landed in the Arkansas River upside down near Pinnacle Rock Recreational Area west of Parkdale, authorities say.
The identities of the elderly man and woman have not been released pending notifications of their family, said Trooper Brandon Wilkins of the Colorado State Patrol.
The couple were in a 2004 Buick driving west on U.S. 50 at 3:30 p.m. when the car drifted to the right and rolled into the river, Wilkins said.
Officials pulled the Buick out of the river using two cables. Local river guides helped in the recovery.
