I think there was a Walmart thread in either the RR Tavern or General scanning forum.

Target is probably in the same general range. What you might want to check is the VHF and UHF itinerant frequecies.

A lot of stores are using FRS radios (I've seen them at Office Max, Office Depot and a couple of other stores).

Are businesses allowed to use FRS?????

Technically, no, or so I've read. It is a PERSONAL radio service. Businesses should be using the MURS channels, or get a license.

Practically speaking, plenty of businesses do.

I've seen walmarts using 154.600 CSQ in addition to 154.570

for Target you might want to try the following:

151.6250
151.9550
154.5700
154.6000

467.7500
467.7750
467.8000
467.8250
467.8500
467.8625
467.8750
467.9000
467.9125
467.9250

461.0375
466.2875
469.4875
462.9125

Home Depot and Lowes are sort of up in the air, but you might want to try the common VHF/UHF business frequencies, I believe Home Depot is licensed for 464.500, 464.550, 467.8125 and a few other of the "color dot" UHF ones.

Edit: doing a quick license search, Home Depot appears to be licensed statewide in Virginia for the following:
467.7625, 467.8375, 467.8500, 467.8750, and 467.9000 (license WQHE541)

All of the stores mentioned in this post plus others are in the FCC database excluding Lowes. Some licenses are for specific Va. store locations; others are licensed for statewide operation. Be aware that some licensed low power frequencies are not used for voice comms but for remote control of motorized shopping cart movers, i.e., returning a long string of shopping carts from the parking lot to inside the store. Target and K Mart are two users that come to mind. Another non-voice use of one or more of their licensed frequencies is inventory control. High VHF and UHF itinerant frequencies are popular voice comm as well as selected UHF licensed and non-licensed frequencies typically in the 467, 468 and 469 mhz. range. MURS frequencies don't seem to have much activity. The probable reason for this is historically 154.5700, 154.600, 464.5000 and 464.5500 mhz., 469.5000 and 469.5500 mhz. were pre-programed in HTs and that's what the user used.

Put the scanner in the car, drive to where ever of interest and scan a selected frequency range for a period of time. Try to deduce who it is by listening to the comms. For digital scanners do the same or select "Close Call" or equivalent. Manually keep a log of the frequency, pl, suspected user for later reference. Probably multiple return trips will be required. It is a slow and tedious way but by monitoring over time many low power users can be confirmed.

I would also watch 151.5125. I think that the Sam's Club in Colonial Heights uses it.

I've been trying to find the frequencies for Sonic Drive-In in Midlothian. I put my BR330t on Close Call but I don't get any hits at all, and multiple people used the drive-thru. Could they be using digital modulation?
