Hello, I have a older version Yaesu FT-60. Recently I went to charge the battery that was on it as it was low in power. when I went to turn the radio back on it would not turn on. I tried several times but it still didn't work so I ordered another battery, charged it up but still the radio does not work. Now I can turn the radio on with the power cord attached and the radio will turn on but once I disconnect the plug, the radio shuts down. once while I had power to the radio, I inadvertently hit the PTT button with the power cord still attached to the radio and it shut off. Clumsy me.Help Please. Mike

I assume you are using the OEM wall wart charger. Never transmit while the radio is charging, except when you are using the filtered DC cable in the car. The OEM trickle charger does not have enough capacity to power the transmitter, plus it puts raw DC in the audio. I do not charge my batteries while attached to the radio, I use a drop in charger for charging and always have (just ordered and received another) several charged batteries ready for operation. You should get a drop in charger, 15 hours is an awful long time to wait for a fully charged battery to operate when you are out on a marathon or other public service activity with only one battery available.

Check the terminals inside the battery compartment where they contact with the battery, make sure they spring back, if they don't it will not get good contact with the battery.

Thank you sir. After reading threads, I also looked closer and see where the replacement batteries I received are the VX-FNB-V83. I don't think that these will work in an FT version. I ordered a drop in charger along with the batteries BUT I ordered FNB-83 replacement batteries and received the VX-FNB-V83 instead of what I ordered. Apparently, someone on the other end picked the wrong battery pack. My fault as well for not catching the mistake sooner. Guess I definitely need some new glasses. LOL. Any way I ordered from HRO this time the FNB-83 battery and will send these batteries back to the source that I ordered them from with a note that someone there also needs a new set of glasses. Maybe this time I will receive the correct battery. I've had this FT-60 since the mid 2000's and it has never failed me. More like operator error and the brainwaves shorting out in my head.
Yes, I still use the OEM wall charger but just received a new drop in charger for the FNB83 battery so I will use it and retire the wall charger.I never transmit while the battery is charging but do sometimes leave it on while it's charging to listen to the local repeater. Not a good idea I know since it slows the charging process down.
Thanks Clyde for your input. I greatly appreciate it. Mike- kd5ete

Yes sir , I would even agree with that but I've always had the wall plug until Thursday when I received a desk unit I ordered. I don't use the radio much as I don't get on the air much anymore but I use it mainly with my Bluetooth setup on my motorcycle when I go riding.. I just hope that when the new FNB-83 battery works that I ordered from HRO as it should be the Vertex/ Yaesu OEM replacement battery instead of these nock off batteries that I bought off of Amazon, otherwise I'm afraid that I will be investing in a new handheld. I'd rather keep what I have. The only other handheld I have is my radio shack 202 which is the 1st radio I started out with and it works like charm.
