We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. Was in COS this past Sat. up at AF Academy and set up and monitored the Ft. Carson P-25 system for about 5 hours Sat afternoon. The system was very active and lots of talkgroups.
Most was "range operations". They obviously have more tower sites than listed in the database.
This is what I copied with my PSR-500.
CH 1 406.50
CH 2 406.775 the control channel that I heard
CH 3 406.9875
CH 4 408.45
CH 5 407.00
CH 6 410.90
CH 7 407.125
CH 8 408.425
SY:354 R001 S001
99% N352 W: BEE00
Frequencies associated with the control channel of 406.775; 408.425, 409.125, 410.150, 410.1625, 410.55, 410.7

Talkgroups heard:1, 41,48,129,130,135,139,140,272,357,379,701,704,705,707,708,714,715

Since the signal was so strong I would have to guess that the Ft Carson system shares some of the tower sites that the AF Academy uses on the Academy grounds.

I know this post is a little late, but I have programmed the CC's into my 2096. the only indication I get of any activity is TGID 0041, with no audio. Are there any offset's I need to program. I use WIN96 to program the radio, but currently lack the resources to get a premium subscription to RR.

Any help would be appreciated. BTW, I monitor in the car to and from work at Schriever AFB. I travel the route south on Powers, then east on Bradley.

TIA,
Steve

Anyone listening to Fort Carson these days? I am retired military and listen to local law and fire, but also listen to all the local military base/post law/security and fire. Was just wondering who else is listening.

I really wish I could listen to Carson. I was an MP there many years ago. I think we were on 412.8750, it covered the whole post with just a portable. If I remember right the duty officer was "car 5" and the patrol supervisor (me) was "car 8". Lots of good memories.

It's a trunked system now and has a lot more users these days. Take a look at all the talk groups they have now: Fort Carson Trunking System, Fort Carson, Colorado - Scanner Frequencies

I mainly listen to the MPs, FD, EMS, and sometimes the gate security channel (but they get annoying because they do a comms check on the hour every hour with all the gates, so I usually have them locked out of my scanner).

Some crazy stuff goes on out there these days!

Wow Mick, that's some good info. I just have what RR has listed programmed into my scanner. I guess I need to use search instead scan. I knew they used a lot of talk groups but that's more than I imagined.

Now I am going to have to log some listening and post what I hear. Although I cheat a little. My computer logs the transmissions and saves the audio to listen to later. So if you think you heard something, and need the audio or info on what they said, at least on the main talk groups, just let me know.

I usually log and save audio on my computer for Fountain FD and PD, as well as the CSPD and EPSO alternate and TAC talk groups, but I am going to use the search IDfeature for Fort Carson now.

Thanks for the info! I reply on here with what I find too.

For that last group of numbers (the 2XXX series above), are the 2221, 2222, and 2223 IDs supposed to be 2021, 2022, and 2023? You have all the IDs in your list in order except for these and it looks like those three inadvertently got an extra 2 in the second digit, but I could be wrong.

Thanks.

The db admins won't accept submissions of unidentified talkgroups or stuff like 130 “Radio station” “computers” “targetry” “shoe house” “paintball markers” “AK’s M’4’s”

The best thing would be to start a wiki article or add them to and existing one like I did with these:
Fort Hood - The RadioReference Wiki
U.S. Army: Fort Sill - The RadioReference Wiki

OK, Mick, here's one you can submit to add to the database under Military Police Talk Groups:

45 Fort Carson Military Police - Traffic and Special Events

They were using it last night for catching DUI drivers coming onto post. They were switching back and forth between this one and MP-1 (TG-41). Then they would say, "Switching back to Traffic Special Events". Then you would here them on TG-45.

Also, here's another one I have been hearing to add to the talk groups that have been logged... TG-611

It's one of those range training talk groups. I am going to have to get with some Army guys to see what all of these are for.

Callsigns heard:

Tower (Small observation tower overlooking each range), radio ID 3550
TAC, radio ID 3551
RSO (Range Safety Officer), radio ID 3552
Beachmaster (Controls Vehicle Movement on range), radio ID 3560

2034 and 2036 are good TG's, 2036 was active today with Security units. Dispatch is encrypted, mobiles are in the clear. Looking at the list I can see that I just added them to the list and did not put them in order numerically.

I have not heard the other TG's listed from 2001 to 2223 in a few months now.

Yeah my computer logged TG 2036 also, with radio ID 6508 transmitting, "We have inbound Bechtel traffic at Gate 20 in about 20 mins". That was on 12/2/2012 at 00:52.

Now that I am looking for unknown talkgroups I also found a new one for Peterson AFB today (TG-97) and identified it as well. I will have to talk about that one in another thread and submit it for addition when I get a chance.
