Everything was fine with my FT2DR programming and the RT software until I did a recent Windows 10 update (involuntarily). Now my Dell will not recognize the radio, or the usb cable. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for Win10, I rebooted everything with and without and still get the error message. I tried plugging in directly to CPU and bypassing my usb hub. Nada. Something has changed with this most recent Windows update. This has happened before, at least twice with other radios after updates, so I just turned Windows Updates OFF for good. I will go in and do updates from now on by my schedule, not theirs!

I am at a stalemate here. Is there a log I can get into to see what changed and updated and/or installed with this latest Win10 update?

Any ideas?

Workaround:
I do not use a cable. I read/write directly from/to the MicroSD card, then put it into the radio and load the changes.

TailGator911,

You probably got the Fall Update of Windows 10 known as Version 1809. See:

Windows 10, version 1809 re-released
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4464619/windows-10-update-history

On the Windows 10 Support page above, you should be able to "drill down" with the Help questions until it asks if you want to talk to Microsoft directly (it will be a Help Desk in India most likely). It will give you the choice to "Chat" or to have them call you on the telephone. There is no charge for this. Alternately, there may be a "Try the Virtual Agent" pop-up in the lower right of your screen that will eventually get you to the same place. I've used the service many times when I needed help with Windows 10 or other Microsoft applications. Perhaps they can tell you if you can "roll back" to the April 2018 Spring Update of Windows 10.

Hope you can find a solution to your problem.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

Thanks, Dave, but I wanted to really avoid having to do any troubleshooting and update-changes w/Microsoft over this. I actually bought one of those little $10 cheapie card readers on eBay a while back and had never used it so no time like the present, huh? I rebooted all and wrote the programming with RT systems to the card and uploaded it and everything worked perfectly! I wonder if I got a dud cable because all of my other usb programming cables work ok. Anyhoo, I have the new programming in my FT2DR and just verified it all as working.

Thanks, vagrant, for that reminder!

And, thank you, Dave, for that link to troubleshoot with MS, I saved that for later if I ever need it. I'm sure that will come in handy if and when I ever do have a Win10 problem.

73s and thanks again!

JD,

You are certainly welcome. I actually had to work with Microsoft today over a Skype issue and I used the same link to get to a human. I ended up in Central America which was cool (actually it was 107 degrees Fahrenheit outside there). So don't hesitate to contact Microsoft if you need them (after rebooting and uninstalling/reinstalling the application, etc.). They are great in their assistance and courtesy!

Oh, and glad you had a card reader to fix your programming issue. You might try uninstalling/reinstalling the HT programming software and see if that resolves the Windows 10 issue.

PS: Saw our first bit of winter weather here, ice storm with all the trimmings. Scanners going nutso with all the icy conditions, cars spun out in ditches, trees down. 107 degrees almost sounds pretty good right now hah.

I think the driver for the cable got munged during the upgrade. This is separate from the Rt software, which you have proven is ok by using the sd card..

Go to RT site and download their cable driver. Follow the instructions and all should be good.

You might have to login as the admin and use device manager to remove the current (not working) driver.

Give RT systems a call if you have trouble, they will get you running in no time.

Hit_Factor,

Good point there. I did not realize that the driver was separate from the Yaesu programming software install. Thanks for chiming in!
