Hi all,
I am setting my FT5D up for APRS. About everything is working correctly and it is showing up on aprs.fi and receiving beacons as well. However there is one thing bugging me. When it beacons out there is a relatively quiet burst of static from the speaker. It does not sound like the "data burst" you would get when receiving. I have muting ON for APRS and this is also volume and squelch independent (understanding that volume impacts the RX and not TX).
When I listen to 144.390 on another handheld I hear the expected data burst when the Yaesu transmits.
There is no similar sound when normally transmitting on other frequencies. I also don't seem to hear this on my APRS enabled mobile when it beacons.
Any thoughts on this and how to make it go away? Although it is not the worst thing when actually using the radio, it is still bothering me ;-) If it was something like the cooling fan coming on on a mobile I would get it, but this doesn't seem right.
Here is a video I have of the sound...make sure your volume is up:
MODs, feel free to move if this should go in the data subforum!
