So, these two look identical (blue enclosure with a dolphin) and have no switch. Radioddity and Yosoo:

https://smile.amazon.com/Yosoo-RTL2.../B07D8V9HM9/ref=wl_mb_wl_huc_clickstream_3_dp
Both mention RTL2832U+R820T2

Then we have a different Yosoo which has a switch and a schematic on the shell :
https://smile.amazon.com/Yosoo-100K.../B07D8VVC23/ref=wl_mb_wl_huc_clickstream_1_dp
There's no mention of RTL2832U+R820T2 but the picture says "New R820T2"

Seems like without an external switch, they can autoswitch (?) somehow which is convenient. However, perhaps the one with a switch performs better between UV and HF due to a more hardware separation ? Totally guessing here.

So, any clue what the differences are? Any recommendation which of the Yosoo's I should get? Price is nearly identical.

Would want to run it with SDR#, SDRconsoleV3, HDSDR, CubicSDR, and gqrx (on linux)

Regards,

I don't have either of those but I've been into SDR for many years. I use this one: RTL-SDR Blog R820T2 RTL2832U 1PPM TCXO SMA Software Defined Radio (Dongle Only) 642419993841 | eBay

Mine works with SDR#, SDR Console and HDSDR but cannot comment on the other software types. The price for the above is for the dongle only but if you shop around you can get it with the antenna (not very useful though) and accessories. Best results are with an outdoor antenna. Another reputable SDR dongle company is Nooelec. They have a good tech support group too. I wish you the best of luck and SDR is definitely fun.

Regards,

The others switch using a software switch (done by selecting a setting in the software) that does the same think. Any performance differences are due to other design factors. Usually these cheaper designs are a 100 MHz up-converter ahead of the R820T.

If you are new to SDR and likely to get more involved, save yourself some time and money and spend more up front--an SDRPlay/RSP will do better though more expensive.

Actually, I guess I should have mentioned I have the RTL-SDRv3, exactly like the one you listed. I've been playing with direct sampling on it with a random long wire outside.

Thanks for that! I was contemplating an RSP2a for it's 3 antenna connections, so I don't have to rewire between (for example) playing with ADS-B, monitoring local Fire dispatch, and HF shortwave/HAM listening. But its 4x the price... I'll probably end up there, but having several SDR dongles to mess around with is OK.

Again, thanks all!

Forgot to mention that instead of direct sampling for HF I use a Nooelec HamItUp upconverter in tandem with the dongle, works very well. Great for the AM broadcast band also.
