If you have tried to access any of my sites in the past few days you realized I forgot to pay the bills AGAIN! September has been a busy month between trips to Cape May and other ventures, the site has gone neglected. Hopefully justinmattes.com will be back in early to mid-October, I have decided dedicate the site to my other loves besides scanning, mostly writing and license plates. Getting back to bergenscanner, I really don't know my next move, I have made additions to the site but really don't have the desire to continue working on it in its current format as it is has become even more cumbersome to maintain. I'll renew thee domain because I don't want to lose the name again but probably won't do much else at this time. While I have a few VERY LOYAL followers (you know who you are) the support definitely has fallen off, and I don't update as often as I should.. There have also been quite a few bumps in the road, from multiple server changes to fighting to keep the "bergenscanner.com" domain name going for 12+I guess is started going down hill when the Bergen County services, along with others, went to their trunk system. Even with a digital scanner, I can barely hear them in my neck of the woods. I also just recently found out yet ANOTHER jackass has stolen the municipal page right out from under me, formatting and all, not very encouraging
This doesn't mean I'm going to get out of the game completely! I plan to be BACK with something new before the end of the year

Thanks again for the support over the years

Unfortunately, it's not just happening in Bergen County Justin. The advent of digital trunked radio systems using different, and incompatible, formats along with the arrival of encryption that works, and works cheaply, will eventually cause many scanning hobbyists to move onto other, less frustrating, hobbies. It was fun while it lasted!

Justin to save you the headaches of paying for a domain, why not move your content into the database, and what doesn't fit into our wiki? We've absorbed a few sites over the last couple of years...Mike

I considered that Mike and I have actively contributed to the database but really want to be more "hands on". If I could do more than just submit data than wait to have it show up in the database. this is in no means a slap at Radioreference or anything but I use the site to keep busy, but I would rather have more of a prominent role in the data entry I would consider it

If you were a DBA for Northern NJ that would fit the bill - and the wiki is completely hands on...Mike

Justin,

I'd be more than happy to recommend you to become a NNJ DB admin, if that's what you decide you want. Just let me know!

Same here. It would be nice to have another local admin in NJ on board.

Hey Justin,

As a Bergen County boy, I wanted to thank you for the great work you've done on keeping up with frequency data and all of the changes over the past years. It's meant a lot to me as I've come home to visit and I'm sure it's meant a lot to many others. I have zero say here, but I hope to see one of those database thingies on your header line.

In the land of make believe
Encryption is a fact of life now. The final nail in the coffin - phone apps and the press putting up a plug for RadioReference.com - Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference and now broadcastify

What is funny so far is BCPD BCSO are fully encrypted but the few outside agencies are not? Again so far. AES used on county radios at $600 extra per radio. ADP is free

Scott,

Actually I was thinking the same thing because I'm NOT leaving the hobby by any means. You recommendation is very much appreciated and I'm so happy and honored for such an offer. I thought NNJ DB already had enough DB Admins, but if you think I can be helpful I'm ready and willi=ng to contribute!

Let me know

Justin,

I'd be more than happy to recommend you to become a NNJ DB admin, if that's what you decide you want. Just let me know!
